9/11, I will never forget

Hello Euthenia Marketing blog followers!  This blog will not be about marketing, social media, or SEO.  I feel it necessary for me to put down in words some of my feelings about 911, how it affected me then and how I still struggle to handle it now.

It’s hard to believe it has been 10 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the American Airlines flight 93.  On that beautiful day I went into work going about my usual business when my husband called me and told me to put the TV on because a plane just hit a building in New York.  I quickly ran to the TV’s in our office and minutes later witnessed the second plane strike the tower.  I still had my husband on the phone and was confused thinking this was a rerun of the plane that hit, but he quickly explained this was a second plane that plummeted into the 2nd tower.

Astonished at what I had just seen, I notified the rest of the staff of these horrific events.  We continued to listen to news briefs on the radio and TV trying to catch a glimpse of what was to be the worst terror attack on US soil.  There was almost an eerie feeling in the air not knowing what was going on, but concerned that other big cities such as Chicago could be next.  Pandemonium hit the city with people evacuating large buildings, trains overcrowded with people trying to exit the city, and interstate highways in gridlock.

We finished the day at work listening intently with heavy hearts.  I remember listening to the news radio in the car on my way home and crying uncontrollably for the many people who lost their lives in the buildings and in the plane.   I thought for sure we would be going to war by the end of that week and knowing my two sons, one 23 and one 18 at the time could be drafted.  For close to a month I was in a state of anxiety and mourning along with millions of other Americans who felt helpless.

We had no idea of what kinds of after effects such an event can produce and to this day the images still haunt me.  I still get tears in my eyes when I see bits and pieces of the images, but I hold my head high seeing hundreds of thousands of people working together, helping each other even 10 years later.  I believe as a nation we are still healing for those of us who experienced it as adults.  It is up to us to continue to keep the legacy of all the men and women who lost their lives that day, by educating our young Americans so we Never Forget.
